The Gondoliers Synopsis
Something is stirring in the art gallery…
It’s just days before the dust covers are scheduled to fall from a collection of paintings that form the brand new wing of one of Venice’s most celebrated art galleries. Assembled together for the first time are a remarkable group of lively paintings – all inspired by the masterful works of W.S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan.
But with each painting bursting at the frame with such richly drawn characters, magic is surely bound to happen!
After the lights go out and the security guards have settled down to count their sheep, one by one each painting springs to vibrant life.
Gondoliers, young maidens, a Duke, a Duchess, a Grand Inquisitor and a chorus of unexpected G&S guests step down from their frames and into our world in this brand new production of perhaps Gilbert and Sullivan’s finest collaboration.
With a score that is indelibly imbued with Italian sunshine and a libretto that froths with timeless wit and heady romantic fire, the G&S society invites you to a night of playfulness and whimsy.
