Members were saddened by the death of Chris Butler in mid-October.
Chris was an active behind-the-scenes member of the Society, well known to our audiences for many years as the friendly face in the box office. She was Secretary for the first half of the 90s, Audition Secretary for numerous shows and a Production Manager in the 80s. She was elected an Honorary Life Member in 1998.
Chris was a great friend to many members, and popular with everyone. She died after a short illness. Our condolences to her family.
Members, particularly our older members, have also been saddened by the death of John Howie in late October.
John, along with his wife Mary, was an active playing member for some twenty years across the 1960s and 70s. Starting in the chorus in 1962, John was well known for his portrayals of the main tenor G&S roles, for the Society and other groups. He served on the Board for 6 years and directed in 1979.
John was well known for his lovely voice and friendly nature. John and Mary’s home in the 70s and 80s was legendary for G&S parties and get-togethers.
John died after a short illness. Our condolences to Mary and the boys.
